ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this corporation is "The Collie Club of Maryland, Inc."
ARTICLE II. SEAL
The corporation seal of this corporation shall be a serrated circle
with the sord "SEAL" written on it.
ARTICLE III. PURPOSE
The objects and purposes of the corporation shall be to associate
and bring together those persons interested in the Collie Dog; to
acquire and disseminate knowledge and appreciation of the Breed; to
encourage and promote ownership, care, breeding, exhibition and
training of purebred registered Collies, to establish and maintain
high standards of excellence in the breeding, showing, sale and stud
fees of Collies; to hold meetings, lectures, shows and exhibitions
for the promotion and accomplishment of the foregoing objects and
purposes, and to do such other things as may be to the best
interests of Collies and members of the Club. The Club shall be a
non-profit organization and no member or officer shall receive
compensation for such service as member or officer.
ARTICLE IV. MEMBERSHIP
(a) There shall be four classes of membership: Active,
Associate Honorary and Junior. Only Active members may vote or
hold office. Junior membership is open to all persons under the
age of sixteen (16).
(b) Any person subscribing to the foregoing objects and
purpose3s shall be eligible for membership.
(c) Applications for Active membership shall be in writing and
shall be sponsored by no less than two (2) active and or
Associate members who have an acquaintance with and/or
reasonable knowledge of the character, reputation and
qualifications of the applicant(s). The application shall be
delivered to the Corresponding Secretary who shall validate the
sponsors' knowledge of the applicant(s) and approve or
disapprove the application with regard to completeness. In
considering such applications, the Board of Governors shall
assume, in the absence of knowledge or evidence to the contrary,
that the sponsoring members do have the actual knowledge of the
character, reputation and qualifications of the applicant (s) ,
and that the sponsoring members believe that the granting of
membership will be to the better interests of the Club.
d) An applicant for membership, after making his or her
intention for membership known by submitting a written
application, shall complete an introductory period of no
less than six (6) months during which the applicant must be
a worker at one (1) Club-sponsored activity and attend at
least two (2) regular Club meetings before this application
may be considered by the Board of Governors.
(e) The applications for membership shall be approved or
disapproved by a vote of a majority of the General
Membership. Upon approval of an application for membership,
the Corresponding Secretary shall notify the applicant of
his election to membership and bill him for the current
due3s. Upon payment of the dues, the applicant's name shall
be placed on the membership list and, while in good
standing, shall be entitled to all the privledges of the
Club.
(f) Should the General Membership by a majority vote,
disapprove an application for membership, the Corresponding
Secretary shall notify the sponsoring members.
(g) An Active Membership shall be accorded to all those who
agree to uphold the aforestated purposes of the Club, and
abide by the Code of Ethics as set forth by the Collie Club
of America. Active members shall attend three (3) Club
meetings and help as a worker at Club events totalling no
less than one (1) yearly.
(h) Honorary Membership may be conferred upon any person for
outstanding service to the Club or its objects and
purposes. Such Honorary Membership shall not be lightly
bestowed and must be a unanimous vote of the general
membership present and voting at any duly called meeting.
(i) An Associate Membership shall be accorded to those who
are unable to attend Club functions on a regular basis, but
desire membership in the Club. They shall be entitled to
all privileges of the Club except voting and holding office.
(j) A Junior Membership shall be accorded to those who are
at least eight (8) years of age who desire membership in the
Club. It shall be the duty and privilege of all members to
nurture and encourage these young members toward the
purposes of the Club as previously stated. junior members
shall be entitled to all privileges of the Club except
voting and holding office.
(k) The immediate members of the family of any Active
members shall be accorded the courtesy of the Club, but may
not vote, hold office, or participate in the business of the
Club unless they themselves are active members.
ARTICLE V. OFFICERS AND ORGANIZATION
(a) The Officers of the Club shall be President, Vice
President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and
Treasurer.
(b) the management of the affairs of the Club shall be
vested in a Board of Governors consisting of the above named
Officers and three (3) Active Members elected as provided by
the By-Laws.
